Who are we?  Meet our Board of Directors

We are a nonprofit organization composed of volunteers.
As suicide survivors, our losses have motivated us to action.
Life is precious.
Working together, we hope to save others.

What do we do?

Our Mission

Helping others through education and advocacy for suicide prevention.

Our Goals

To Educate
Depressive Brain Disease can result in suicide death if left untreated. Numerous deaths can be averted with the right medical intervention. The public needs to be better educated about suicide prevention in order to save lives.

We are able to educate others by:
  • Sponsoring informational tables at conferences and public events
  • Providing informational brochures and packets to others engaged in health services
  • Maintaining our web site
  • Offering public outreach through outdoor advertising, including billboards [read a Capital Times article about a HOPES billboard campaign]

HOPES is continuously collecting signed Advocacy Letters. We present these letters annually to our governor and legislators in Washington D.C.

To Support
Surviving suicide is not easy to handle alone. Creating a supportive environment can facilitate ones recovery.

We offer support to others by:
  • Participating in survivor outreach programs and making an active effort to contact survivor support groups
  • Networking with other organizations to address suicide prevention, both in Wisconsin and nationwide
  • Creating materials such as the Survivor's Handbook

To Honor
We honor those we have lost to suicide by reading their names. We sponsor the "Many Faces of Suicide" quilt for Wisconsin.  Squares serve as memorials for loved ones lost to suicide. In addition, they clearly demonstrate the profound impact of suicide on those left behind. The quilt is being exhibited both locally and nationwide.  HOPES has started an online Memory Book.  We also honor our loved ones during our annual Walk for Awareness.
